William Russell

William Edward Russell, 79, passed away July 27, 2020. He was born September 5, 1940 in Freer, Texas. He attended Kingsville High School and Texas A&I University. He proudly served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked for The Associates 31 years and got to travel extensively, but he found his real home in Port Aransas.

He was an avid sports fan who had an astonishing memory for sports trivia; he was a longtime UT fan and for years enjoyed playing golf. Bill also had a great talent for playing and writing music; he could watch a movie and sit down at a piano and play by ear most of the main musical themes. Those that knew Bill well would often remark how well-read he was and how he could talk intelligently on just about any subject. He was a man of strong faith and knew the Bible well.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wattie Edward Russell and Devota Clyde (Brown) Russell.

He is survived by his brother, Dee Brown Russell and his wife Patricia. He is also survived by a niece, Stefanie Russell Taylor and her husband Christian and a nephew, Brian Russell, his wife Charity and their two sons Walker and Wade. Also surviving are cousins, Fred McDowell, Sam Clyde Brown, Rosemary Sheives, Kerry Kimler and Becky Brown.

He was surrounded and loved by many close friends who ministered to him up to his passing. A few of his friends included Mary and Louie Funk, Mike and Jill Mitchell, Shannon and Brandon Lafayette, Jim Henry, Ken and Violet Dalton, and Danny and Sue Bonnet. His caregivers, Jayme and Glenda, treated Bill like family. Bill so loved his cat Buddy. Buddy actually adopted Bill and it worked out great for both of them. Bill wanted to make sure Buddy would be well cared for and was so pleased to learn that Jayme's daughter, AJ, was anxious to adopt Buddy.
