Walter Harry Thieme III

July 29, 1957 — January 19, 2025

Corpus Christi

Walter "Dynamite" H. Thieme Ill, passed away on January 19, 2025, at the age of 67. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was known for his bravery, compassion, dedication, and his helpful spirit. He is survived by his wife, Kim Thieme. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Harry Thieme Jr., and his mother Alice Nan Smith Thieme. He is survived by his sister, Kathy Morrill Campbell. He was loved by his family, friends, and countless members of the community as well. A celebration of life will be held on February 1, 2025, in honor of him.

He proudly served as a dedicated and courageous firefighter with the Sequin Fire Department from 1978-1999. His service spanned over 21 years. From 1999-2019, he served as the Director and Instructor at the Del Mar College Fire Science Department. In February 2001, he was one of the pioneers that developed the Del Mar College Basic Fire Fighting Program and the Refinery Terminal Fire Company Training Academy. He was presented with the Century Club Alumni Association - Southwest Texas State University Award for his contributions from 2001-2002. He was also the President of the Guadalupe Firefighters Association from 2000-2001. He was a Master Firefighter TXFP in 1997 and a Master Instructor III TCFP in 2011. He was a person who lived to be of service to others. This desire to help led him into a career as a firefighter and later as an instructor. He stood by the firefighter's prayer, and he embodied every aspect of that prayer.

On a personal note, he was a simple, humble, and generous man. He never wanted anything, but he made sure that others had what they needed. He was a man of few words but when he spoke it was from a place of love. He loved his wife and their pets, especially Leftie and Peanut (his cats). His favorite shows were Barnwood Builders and The Curse of Oak Island. But most of all he loved football. His team was Texas A&M (Gig Em Aggies). On a side note, all of his shirts were burgundy "go figure".

His celebration of life service will be held at The Charlie Marshall Funeral Home & Crematory on February 1, 2025. The location is 2003 W. Wheeler, Aransas Pass, TX 78336. There will be a private visitation for the family from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 am. Then a public visitation from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm and a service will be held from 2:00-2:30.

The Firefighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God wherever flames may rage, give me strength to save a life, whatever be its age.

Help me to embrace a little child before it's too late,

or save an older person from the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout,

and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,

to guard my neighbor and protect his property.

And if according to your will I have to lose my life,

bless with your protecting hand my loving family from strife
