Walter Lee Loving
September 1st, 1939 – August 21st, 2019
Walter “Walt” Loving, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, at the age of 79 years, passing in the early morning hours at his home of many years in Ingleside Texas.
Walt was born in Phelps Texas, to Buddy and Lenora Loving. When Walt was a young man his family, Buddy, Lenora Welch Loving, brother’s George and John relocated to Texas City, Texas. Walt while in High School joined his Dad, working for the American Oil Company. Upon Walt’s graduation from Texas City High School, Walt immediately began a lifetime of Service, entering the United States Navy in 1957. While in the Navy Walt served aboard various Aircraft Carriers, he was a “Plank Owner” or one of the original crew of the USS Tripoli, and he even did a stint on the USS Lexington before she was decommissioned. Walt was also a “double shell back” or a sailor who has crossed the equator.
Walt met the love of his life and was united in marriage to Elnora Joyce McFatridge in a candlelight ceremony at the Ingleside Methodist Church in 1964. They were happily married 52 years, the majority of which were spent in Ingleside, near Joyce’s parents George and Lilly McFatridge and sister Bea and Tony Schonhoeft. Walt and Joyce had two son’s James and Steven and Walt had two sons from a previous marriage Jeff and Kent.
After leaving the Navy, Walt continued in his life of service working for the Department of Defense at the Corpus Christi Army Depot. After retiring from the Department of Defense, Walt was still not done with serving his community he started a third career, first with the Ingleside Police Department, where he was instrumental in implementing the new 911 address system for the City of Ingleside. He later moved to the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Department where he retired a second time in 2012 after a great career as the Baliff of the County Court at Law, under Judge Michael Welborn and Judge Richard Hatch III.
Walt was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Ingleside and he greatly enjoyed serving the youth of the community, he was active with the Ingleside Little League even before his own children were old enough to play ball. Walt was also deeply involved in Scouting, Cubs, Boy Scouts and Explorers, once again even after his children were too old to participate. Walt was an avid reader, and he enjoyed fishing, camping, and the shooting sports, as well as all genres of music.
