Tommy Gene Woodman, 89, of Rockport passed away January 9, 2024. He was born August 24, 1934 in Chariton, Iowa. He graduated from Chariton High School and joined the Navy in 1952. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and assigned to Aransas County Airport as an air traffic controller. He guided navy training planes in and out of the airport. While serving in Rockport, he met Carole Simpson and they married on February 19, 1955. After serving four years, Tommy and Carole moved to Iowa for a short time before moving back to the Coastal Bend area, where he enjoyed many years of duck hunting and fishing – often from boats he built himself. He went to work at Reynolds Aluminum Plant in Ingleside for over 30 years. After retiring from Reynolds, he filled his time in his garage as a very skilled woodworker.
Tommy was very patriotic, flying the US flag at home each day, and for several years he and Carole supported the Coastal Bend Troop Support, welcoming home and sending off our area military at the Corpus Christi airport. Tommy and Carole had many adventures traveling throughout the US.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Elsie Woodman; sisters Molly (Byron) Voss, Gloria Ann (Cleo) Sellers, and Donna (Jake) DeBok; foster brother Jim (Anne) Keene; and beloved grandson Matthew Woodman.
He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Carole, children Thomas R. (Vicki Ralls) Woodman, Laurie (Mel) Malone, Craig (Ginny Price) Woodman, and Jeff (Alayna) Woodman. Also surviving are grandchildren Tom Woodman, Chris (Melinda) Ralls, Aaron Ralls, Robert (Megan Weatherwax) Stebelton, RC (Sean) Montague, Cayla (Jason) Perez, Elizabeth (David) Jennings, Grant Malone, Katy Coleman, Andrew (Meghan) Frazier, Anthony (Monica) Frazier, Samantha (James) Purtell, and Adam (Destiny) Frazier.
