Thomas E. Abbott

Thomas (Tom or Ed) E. Abbott passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 5, at his home in Rockport, TX, with his wife, Joyce by his side.

Tom was born in Carroll, Iowa, on April 25, 1943. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his 20 year career with the Air Force, he was stationed in Texas, New Mexico, Illinois, England, Okinawa, and Vietnam.

Tom married his wife, Joyce, on July 14, 1972, in Colfax, Illinois. They just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1981, Tom spent the next 13 years doing home remodeling, Service Department Manager (Amigo), Credit Reporting Manager (Equifax), and self employed as a consultant to small business owners for PC related issues. Tom and Joyce moved to Desoto, Texas, in 1991. Tom started his next career in 1994 with Lexis-Nexis in the PC related field, including support, software development and training. He retired for the second time in 2007.

Over the years Tom and Joyce shared many interests, including family time, yard work/landscaping, bass fishing, traveling, visiting and photographing lighthouses, and photography. Photography was his true passion and he loved to share his photography knowledge. When Joyce retired in 2009, they started spending the winter months in Rockport, Texas. Rockport is the ideal place for wildlife photography and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. They did this for several years and then decided it was time for a change. They had a short list, buy a motor home and become full timers or buy a home in Rockport. Rockport won. The big move was in July, 2017 and Hurricane Harvey welcomed them one month later. The past year was spent recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. There was little time for photographing the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We should have taken the time, but always thought there would be time tomorrow.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, son Mark, sisters Audrey Oatman and Lois Abbott, and brothers Gerry, D.Tom, and Terry. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ethel Abbott, and brother-in-law Jack Oatman.

Tom was always a loving and giving person and was happiest when he was helping someone. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. The day after he passed, Joyce looked up at the morning sky and the large cumulus clouds were shaped like a pair of angel wings.
