Terry Shane Files was born in Longview, Texas on August 10, 1983 to Terry and Deba Files. Terry has been a resident of Portland, Texas since July 1993. He passed away at his home on August 30, 2024. He was forty-one years and twenty days old.
At school and work, people knew him by Terry; to family and close friends, he was known as Shane. According to his Aunt Tanya, “He was mostly, usually very quiet, but so very smart. Those he touched, they never forgot him and he made a lasting impression.”
Throughout his early life, he traveled extensively across the United States alongside his father's work travels. He was baptized in the name of Jesus at the age of 9, by his uncle, the reverend, Robert Adams (deceased) in Emory, Texas.
Shane is preceded in death by his twin sister, Tiffany Denise Files; maternal grandfather, Rayborn Rice; paternal grandparents, Robert Lee & Betty Jo Files; paternal aunt, Rhonda Lee Files; and numerous cousins, as well as great-aunts and uncles and all great-grandparents
He is survived by his parents, Deba Ann & Terry Lewis Files of Portland; brother, US Army Staff Sergeant Daniel Bradley Files & wife Shawntay and their children, Robin and Dean Files of Honolulu, HI; his special niece, Sophia McKenzie Guzman of Portland; paternal grandmother, Patricia Pinchera & husband Jay of Oil City, LA; aunt, Tanya & husband Jerry Dinkins of Ore City, TX; uncle, Mike Files & wife Barbara, of Branson, MO; aunt, Valerie & husband Ray Manley of Gladewater, TX; and innumerable cousins & great cousins, along with many great aunts & uncles.
Shane graduated from Gregory Portland High School in 2002, achieving a 4.0 GPA and graduated with honors. He earned two degrees in Journalism/Film/Communications from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi and received the Outstanding Student Award in Radio & Film in 2012; all the while, maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout college. He also attended Texas A&M at Corpus Christi prior to turning to his photojournalism career. He was a free spirit who excelled at grilling for the family and took great pleasure in that culinary skill. He was an avid reader, a passionate movie buff and enjoyed listening to podcasts. He enjoyed paint-ball, fishing, as well as collecting knives and firearms. During High School, he and his friends made amateur films in the vein of pranks & dares. His greatest pride and joy during the past nine years, has been being the loving uncle of his sister’s daughter, Sophia. He was also very loyal to his family, whom he loved deeply and proved that by moving back home to assist in the raising of Sophia.
Shane served as a News Editor at KIII, Channel 3 News in Corpus Christi, Texas. Starting as an intern, he had dedicated twelve years to full-time work at the channel. His passion for his job was heightened when he performed onsite cameraman duties, a role he cherished even more before declining of his health and the loss of his sister.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 12pm to 2pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass. Service will follow at 2pm.
