Suzanne Thomas Cotton
December 19, 1954 – May 3, 2023
We Celebrate the life of Suzanne Thomas Cotton who passed away after a short battle with lung cancer on May 3, 2023. She was born December 19, 1954, the youngest of five, to Kenneth and Mary Ann Thomas in McAllen Texas. When she was twelve, they moved from McAllen, Texas to Portland, Texas where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Gregory-Portland High School and married the love of her life, Charles Edward Cotton, on November 16, 1973.
Her husband and children were her whole world; she would move heaven and earth for them. Suzanne helped start the Sinton Soccer Association when her son, Joshua, wanted to play, with Charlie by her side building all the soccer goals. Years later when her youngest daughter wanted to play on a girls’ team, she again stepped up and agreed to coach an all-girls team learning the game as she went. She went all in watching videos, reading books, and networking with anyone that could teach her how to coach the game. Suzanne saw the world a little differently, she found humor in almost everything and would drop anything she was doing to lend an ear to her children or grandchildren. Suzanne had a special connection with each one of her 13 grandchildren, her “Flock of Chickies”! They even had their own text thread with her and the 13 of them. She was one of those people that you would find yourself laughing uncontrollably with, usually at inappropriate times! She was smart, creative, and curious, she loved to read and to learn about everything. If it was crafty then she was doing it. She had the most charitable heart and loved her church and church family. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion to family and friends will live on through the family she raised and the hearts of those she touched.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her Mother, Mary Ann Thomas, and her Father, Kenneth P Thomas. She is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Charles Cotton of Portland, her son Joshua Cotton of Richmond, her daughters Kelly (Joseph) Devenney of Portland, Nikki (Quino) Molinos of Richmond, Laney (Chris) White of San Diego, California and thirteen amazing grandchildren: Kyla (Chance) Weaver, Tristan Cotton, Logan Cotton, Jace Elder, Jaylen Molinos, Cash Elder, Aislinn Molinos, Evelyn Cotton, Layla Cotton, Joseph Devenney III, Addison Devenney, Zoey White, Savanna Molinos. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is also survived by her siblings Sandra (Charles) Coan of Portland, Sherry (Bob) Benick of Portland, Bruce (Mary Jane) Thomas of Mathis, and Peggy (Mark) Terry of Portland, as well as many nieces and nephews.
May she rest in peace at the side of our Lord and Savior.
