Shirley Nixon

August 14, 1946 — August 12, 2019

Port Aransas

Shirley Ann Nixon, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 12, 2019. She was born on August 14, 1946 in Refugio, Texas. She was a 1964 graduate of Woodsboro High School.

Shirley was first and foremost a dedicated wife and mother to her husband, Thomas Canty (TC) Nixon of 52 years, and their three daughters. She devoted her life not only to her family, but also to her friends and to her church family whom she enjoyed sharing her love of the Lord.

After graduating from high school in 1964, while working in Corpus Christi, Texas she met the love of her life “TC” while attending a dance at the Dunes Dance Hall on the beach in Port Aransas, marrying “TC” ON October 14, 1966. Together, TC & Shirley started their family of 3 girls; Lori, Robin, and Heather.

After TC retired from the ferry system, they purchased Kingfish Courts successfully running it for the last 25 years. Together, TC and Shirley raised their girls. Shirley enjoyed spending her time as a substitute teacher in the Port Aransas School system. Shirley was an active member of First Baptist Church in Port Aransas where she enjoyed volunteering and teaching Sunday School. Shirley took great pride in her yard. She and TC would spend hours every evening sitting on the front porch swing admiring the yard and watching TC’s birds.

Shirley enjoyed being a mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will always be remembered as “the boss” as she was always quick to make it known that she was in charge, even up to her death. She was loved by so many and left a lasting impression on many in the Port Aransas community, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirley is preceded in death by her father, Joe Veselka, brother Ted Veselka, infant daughter Tara Canty and mother and father in law Nettie & Doss Nixon.

She is survived by her husband TC, mother Virginia Veselka, sister, Mary (Buck) Saulter, 2nd sister Molly Nixon, and daughters; Lori Nixon, Robin Nixon & Heather Nixon, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (9); KT (Kole), Alana (Kaylee), Emily (Corbin), Ben, Thomas (Maverick) and Oscar.
