Shirley Fahrenthold

January 16, 1935 — June 3, 2018

Ingleside, Texas

Shirley Christine Fahrenthold, of Ingleside, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the age of 83. She was born to the late Donald H. McCrory, Sr. and Elizabeth Hoff McCrory in Borger, TX on January 16, 1935.

In 1952, Shirley moved to Ingleside, TX, where she would soon meet the love of her life, Floyd Fahrenthold. They married on August 15, 1955, settling down on the family land where she would reside for the next sixty-two years. Floyd remained her devoted husband until his passing in 2011. Shirley was a quintessential family matriarch who spent much of her life taking care of others. A kindhearted and loving person, she became a mother figure to everyone who knew her. As an avid sports fan, Shirley could often be found cheering on her Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. She had a talent for arts and crafts, creating beautiful crocheted and embroidered blankets to share with family and friends. Shirley loved music, particularly the country and gospel genres. Listening to music was one of her favorite things to do with her husband Floyd. Another favorite hobby of hers was assembling puzzles-- a work in progress could almost always be found near her favorite chair. Shirley's warm personality and mischievous sense of humor made quick friends of anyone she met and earned her a special place in the hearts of many. She embodied a young-at-heart spirit that brought joy to her family. Family was always her top priority and her biggest source of pride. She loved keeping in touch with everyone, even embracing new technology and social media late in life as a means to communicate with the people she loved.

She is survived by her children, Malinda McLennan (Charlie) of Cibolo, TX, Gwendolyn Bowers (John) of Aransas Pass, TX, and Timothy Fahrenthold (Angie) of Spring Branch, TX, and sister Cindy Hougham (David) of Ingleside, TX. Also surviving are grandchildren Kimberly Koletar, Kelly Koletar, Chris Fahrenthold (Julie), Lindsey Bowers, and Kaela Fasman (David), great-granddaughter Alyssa Koletar, and sister-in-law Kimber McCrory. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years Floyd Fahrenthold, and her brother, Donald H. "Duck" McCrory, Jr.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days. Flowers and memorial donations may be sent to the Bethel Baptist Church, 2248 Morgan Lane, Ingleside, Texas.
