Shelly Beth Grappe checked out of this earthly realm on October 2, 2022, a few days after her 69th birthday. Shelly suffered a brief illness and eventually succumbed to her disease in spite of the best of medical care. She leaves her husband, Steve Grappe of 48 years, their son Austin Grappe of Corpus Christi, a granddaughter, Madison Grappe of San Angelo, daughter to Shelly’s son, Tyler Grappe, who died in 2020. Shelly also leaves a loving sister Tamarin Vincient Hennebury of New Orleans a niece Ananda Wasco and her daughter Aja Vincent Rose of Bluffton, South Carolina, a nephew, Anthony Trotter, and son Kyle Trotter of Tokyo, Japan.
Shelly had an affinity for saltwater locales and grew up in Key West Florida. She chose to live her adult years in Rockport, Texas, as that reminded her of her magical Key West childhood.
Shelly had a remarkable career as an elementary special education teacher in Hamlin, Lubbock and San Angelo, Texas and will be fondly remembered by her former students and parents as she so deeply touched the heart of each.
After retiring from the educational field, she found her muse as a much-acclaimed fiber artist. She used her saltwater memories, her love of color and the beauty of the Rockport environment to create her memorable art pieces. She shared her talents by teaching other fiber artists how to find their muse and create with color.
She was a kind soul who loved animals, was friendly to all people and could talk to anyone with ease. She loved her family and loved Rockport. It was hard to find anyone who did not love her in return because of her heart and wonderful personality. Shelly, we are glad your suffering is over, but we will miss you dearly. We hope to see you again.
