Severo Martinez Jr.

Severo “Shorty” Martinez was born November 17, 1935 in Lagarto, TX to Severo Martinez Sr & Refugia Martinez. Shorty was raised in Mathis, TX and eventually called Rockport home.

Shorty was an extremely hard worker. He started from a young age working in the fields picking cotton to help support his family, to working as a Plumber along side his brother Cipriano Martinez at Martinez Plumbing. He learned many trades that he eventually passed on to his children and grandchildren. If anything needed fixing, Shorty could fix it, and if he didn’t know how, he’d figure it out. Shorty served at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in any capacity they needed, including serving as a Knight of Columbus and his sons Oscar Sr. and Johnny followed suit. It was important to Shorty that his family attended church and followed Christ. Even as the end was nearing, he held steadfast in his faith.

Shorty is preceded in death by the love of his life Andrea Moreno Martinez, his son’s Oscar Martinez Sr. and Johnny Martinez.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Barbara Ruiz of Corpus Christi, TX and Carolina Vela of Cotulla, TX, a son James Martinez of Rockport, TX. Grandchildren: Amanda Rodriguez (Travis) of Houston, TX, Aaron Martinez (Lacey) of Houston, TX, Oscar Martinez Jr. (Delaine) of Corpus Christi, TX, Devin Martinez, Cheyenne Yost (Ryan), Douglas Hebert, and Tristan Hebert, as well as many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Shorty was truly blessed with such a huge and beautiful family. His silly stories, jokes and contagious laugh will be truly missed.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 10:00 am until service time of 2:00 pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, Texas. Burial will be private.
