Russel Joseph Galjour (Buddy), 82, passed away on May 4, 2023. He was born to Oscar and Hilda Galjour in Morgan City, Louisiana, on April 24, 1941. Buddy was surrounded by his loving family and lifelong friends during his last days as we said our goodbyes.
Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Hilda Galjour, and his son, Parris. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dolly (Holmes) Galjour, his son, Michael (Angie), and his daughter, Jennifer. He was a loving “Po” to grandchildren Alexis, Ethan, and Emma as well as great grandchildren Matthew and Scarlett.
A graduate of Aransas Pass High School (1958), he continued his education at Saint Mary’s University, San Antonio, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Buddy moved to Houston directly after graduating from St. Mary’s and went to work for Shell Oil Co. He only worked for Shell for a short time before landing a job selling ads for Yellow Pages. After many successful years working for Yellow Pages, Buddy returned to his hometown of Aransas Pass, Texas to assist his father with managing his fleet of commercial Shrimp Trawlers. During this time, Buddy and his father began a boat brokerage business along with managing the existing fleet; which became a very successful venture. After the death of Oscar, and at the age of 44, Buddy pivoted from the shrimping industry and began a long and also successful career selling Health Insurance. You could say that Buddy was a lifelong salesman, and was not afraid to try new things. He could sell anything, all while making the client feel at ease and confident in their decision to work with Buddy.
Buddy Galjour was a man’s man, a ladies man, a great Father and Grandfather, a loving husband; and a true friend. He leaves an empty space in each of our hearts, but that void is filled with so many beautiful, sweet, and often funny memories. Buddy loved fishing, boating, dove/duck hunting, and of course, the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. He also loved all things “Cajun”, and Hilda’s famous peanut butter fudge. He took delight in telling of his many trips to Las Vegas, where, in his own mind, he came away always a winner! Buddy never overlooked the simpler pleasures in his life - playing with his grandchildren and challenging his children and grandchildren to a game of water volleyball in his backyard pool. He taught them the value of hard work, and also how to appreciate just relaxing on his patio swing while listening to the soothing music of Frank Sinatra, his all-time favorite. Buddy would say the only thing missing here were his famous margaritas and nachos!
We all smile at Buddy’s never changing response to “How are you”?.........I’m fantastic!” Now that he is reunited in heaven with all his loved ones…..especially Parris…..what an exciting new level of fantastic!
