Rosemary Spears Upton, lovingly known to her family as Mama, Mamaw, Mimi and Big Mamaw, 94, was born February 9, 1929, in Aransas Pass, Texas to William and Edna Spears.
She passed away March 31, 2023, in her home surrounded by her family. Rosemary graduated from Aransas Pass High School where she participated as a cheerleader. She was a good student, very popular and made many lifelong friends. She married Harold Upton on December 1, 1948. They were married nearly sixty-seven years before his passing on April 19, 2015. Rosemary was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, were she and her sisters graced the back row of the church and on occasion were sent to the nursery to be reprimanded by the preacher! Rosemary was a bookkeeper and worked in retail. She worked at Merle Norman Cosmetics for over forty years, she met the public well, always with a big smile and was very welcoming. She was an excellent cook-especially cakes and cream pies, and she loved working crossword puzzles. She is the only person we know that worked the puzzles in ink! For the past six years her daughter Pamela Kay, son-in-law Gary and grandson Corey have been taking care of Rosemary, her eleven-year-old great grandson, Drake was a great helper and a big comfort to is his “Big Mamaw”.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her sisters: Wanda Morrison and Florence Parks; her brothers: W.R. Spears Jr., Jarrell Spears and Floyd Ray Spears.
She is survived by her son, Stanley Upton; daughter, Pamela Kay Carter (Gary), grandchildren: Patricia De La Cerda (Mondo), Brittany Davis (Clay), Roy Glenn Carter (Tiffaney), and Corey Carter; great grandchildren: Karissa and Christopher De La Cerda, Caden, Ryker and Gage Carter, Tristan and Drake Carter; sister, Loy Kellar and brother, Joe Spears; along with numerous nieces and nephews and her favorite boss, Patty Gilden. Our family would like to give a big thank you to Jessica, Liza and AADI Home Health and Hospice for their kind and loving care. Rosemary was the rock of our family, she was very supportive and always so helpful, you could talk to her about anything. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her, she was so proud of each and everyone and loved them all so much. She will be greatly missed. Pallbearers will be Terry Upton, Jack Upton, Bobby Loeffler, Bubba Kellar, Jason Gilden and Julian Gilden.
A public viewing will be held 4:00 p.m.-7:00 pm. Monday, April 10th, 2023, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm. Tuesday, April 11th, 2023, at the Charlie Marshall Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie De Herde officiating, burial to follow at Prairie View Cemetery.
