Roderick Moss

Roderick Moss, 73, of Castroville and Rockport, Texas passed on August 10, 2020.  He was born in Beeville, Texas to King and Eunice Moss on October 17, 1946.  Rod graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School.  He continued his education at Texas A & M University playing football on scholarship and was a member of the Aggie Corps of Cadets.  Rod graduated from Texas A & M with a Bachelor’s in Agricultural Economics in 1968.  Rod was a proud, lifetime 12th Man, a truly devoted Aggie. Rod earned his Master’s in Economics in 1970 from the University of Arizona, Tucson.  Rod was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss.

Upon graduation, Rod had a successful career in the beef industry and then changed careers working for the IRS as an Economist until he retired.  Rod had a passion for agriculture working in the cattle feeding industry and here found a passion in trading commodity futures, becoming a mentor to many in this skill.

Rod lived a life full of love, adventure, and passion. He followed the commodity market advising friends and family each day.  Rod was an avid football fan, closely following high school and college football, and of course, his beloved Aggie Football. He made sure to attend the show and spirit of Aggie home games each season. Rod was also a devoted fan of his grandkids’ sports teams and band, making many road trips to support, cheer and see them compete.  From childhood, Rod followed the status and migration of the Whooping Crane to Texas.  Rod traveled to many destinations with some of his favorites including Ireland, Alaska, Washington, the Mediterranean, Germany and many trips to Dallas TX, Moore TX, Iowa and Florida sharing his travels with his best friend and wife since 1995, Jacqueline Walsh-Moss.

Rod was a man of service.  He was very active at Zion Lutheran Church as High School Sunday School teacher, Young Adults teacher, Council member, Treasurer, and Ham Dinner chair.  He volunteered to serve on several citizen boards for the city of Castroville.  Rod was a founding member and treasurer for the Castroville Area Economic Development Committee (CAEDC).

Rod never met a stranger and had many friends from the community, church, school, jobs, and organizations.  He was known for talking to everyone he met and telling them he was an Aggie.  Rod reached out to help others and was a mentor to many whose lives he helped make better.  He took interest in his family and his long list of friends and loving and supporting them fully.  Rod had a close-knit relationship with his three brothers and friends, King II, Stanley, and Scott.  Rod was a devoted father and grandfather loving and supporting the activities of his children, Douglas and Colby and his five grandchildren with the optimistic energy he pursued all his passions.  Rod got lucky marrying his best friend, Jackie, adored her and reveled in their partnership in life together.

Rod is survived, loved and will be missed by his wife, Jackie Moss; son, Douglas Moss, his wife Regina and their kids Hannah, Samuel and Drew; son, Colby Moss, his wife Lanita and their daughters, Elliott and Hunter; brother, King Moss II and his wife Georgeann; brother, Stanley; brother, Scott and his wife Lisa; sister-in-law Becky: and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and many, many friends.

A visitation will be held on September 26, 2020 at Zion Luthern Church in Castroville, Texas from 9am-11am followed by a Life Celebration Memorial Service at 11am.
