Corpus Christi, Texas

Robert William Saulter, 99 passed away January 26, 2021. He was born December 27, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan to Abraham and Marie (Rauch) Saulter.

He grew up in Flatbrookville, NJ, graduated from Newton High School in June 1936 and attended Wayne University in Detroit for two years before enlisting in 1940 in what later became the USAF. Bob married Harriet “Hedge” Wheeler on November 16, 1945. Bob separated from the USAF in May 1950 as a Captain and entered the University of Denver. He was called back to USAF duty March 1951 and was fortunate to be assigned to Lowry AFB, Denver, Colorado where he was able to complete a BSBA and MBA in the night program at DU.

In July 1958 Bob and Hedge adopted twin boys and named them Edmund Joseph and Steven Frederic, so much for peace and calm. After duty assignments in Albuquerque, Norfolk, Norway, Philadelphia, Thailand and back to Albuquerque, Bob retired in 1970 as a Lt. Col and resided in Albuquerque until 1994. For several years, Bob was Brotherhood of St Andrew coordinator for the Diocese of The Rio Grande. In 1994, they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas because Hedge needed to live at a lower altitude. After 4 ½ good years in Corpus Christi, Hedge died.

A year later Bob married the former Bobbie Jarrett Spencer, a well-known artist. They had a great life together. Ballroom Dancing, Square Dancing, Bridge (We helped each other become Life and Bronze Life Masters), travel, and just living. Over the years, Bob developed a reputation as a handball player, a racquetball player, and an Episcopalian. His handball and racquetball friends will miss him. In recent years Bob lost most of his vision due to macular degeneration. This caused him to stop playing bridge and handball, but he still played racquetball with friends in their eighties. He now specialized with rim shots.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Harriett “Hedge” Saulter; brothers, Leon and Rudy Saulter.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Saulter; sons, Edmund Saulter, Steven Saulter (Kathy); grandchildren, Nicole and Brittany Saulter; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
