Born to Pedro and Petra (Longoria) Torres on September 22, 1956, he was number 11 of 12 children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his eldest brother Pedro Torres, Jr., and sister Janie Valdez, as well as his in-laws Silverio and Mary Diaz. His remaining siblings, Olivia, Amado, Adolfo, Jose, Viola, Mary, Rosa, Coco, Elena and all their families, will miss their beloved brother dearly.
He is survived by the love of his life, Teresa Torres of Aransas Pass, and over the course of their 35 years of happiness, raised 7children: Reyes Torres, Jr.; Bullet Torres (Kelly); Rosemary Diaz; Tiffany Ricarte (Todd); Desirae Torres; Leanna Romero (Gilbert); and Deanna Torres (Joe). But the greatest joy of his life was being surrounded by his 22 grandchildren: Damien, Audrey, Caleb, Gavin, Annalysia, Jose, Aidan, Angelina, Jonathan, Curtis, Christian, Abigail, Anessa, Julian, Joshua, Anaya, Liam, Adalynn, Armani, Andrew, Lux, and Sylas, and one great grandchild on the way.
Rey never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He had a heart of servitude and could often be found mowing neighbors yards, helping someone working on their vehicle, or fixing things around peoples house for them. He had a great passion for working with his hands and built his famous “Tiki Bar” as a gathering place for everyone and anyone. He had a love a music and playing the accordion. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and enjoyed watching UFC and boxing.
Rey was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, friends, neighbors, and community, who all loved him dearly. He was a man whose passing has left an unfillable gap in the hearts and lives of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and above all else, love, will be forever engrained in all he knew. “The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” Proverbs 20:7.
