Phillip Woodard

d. March 18, 2017

Phillip Leonard Woodard passed away March 18, 2017, at the age of 76 after a 10- year battle with Melanoma.

Phillip was born in Pasadena, California to Charles and June Beaver. He later had his name changed to his step father's name of Woodard.

Phillip was raised in Pasadena where he worked as a printer, and then went on to become a sales man for the Los Angeles Times. He traded in his stint with the Times and purchased an RV Resort in Willits, California among the Redwoods. Phillip built and flew his own Ultra-light airplane which was a hobby of his. Another hobby of his was working with the boy scouts of which he was a troop leader for many years, and a computer teacher in the Senior center.

Phillip moved to Rockport, Texas by way of Brownsville in the winter of 2004, just in time for the big snow. He promptly joined St. Peters Episcopal Church which he thought of as his family.

He was an avid Square and Country dancer. Before the cancer set in you could find him on the dance floor at least once a week. He volunteered at Good Samaritans and later at the Humane Society. He built and maintained several Web sites. He was looking forward to doing some woodworking and watched a lot of shows on ways to build things.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Clint Woodard. He is survived by his companion, Vernetta Sorrells; step- daughter, Tricia and Roy Durrett of Rusk, Texas; daughter, Kelly Woodard of Willits, California; granddaughter, Kirstin Sorrells; great-grandson, Vaughn Taylor of Rusk, Texas.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to American Cancer Society in Phillips name.

A memorial service at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Rockport, Texas will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00 am.
