Philip James Albin, known to many as Phil, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025 at the age of 84. A proud resident of Rockport, Texas, Phil was a cornerstone of the community, known for his love of fishing, problem-solving ingenuity, and deep commitment to service.
Born and raised in South Texas, Phil was the youngest of three children of Eugene Joseph Albin and Helen Squiers Albin. As a young man, Phil enlisted in the U.S. Army, and in later years he remained a steadfast supporter of our troops, particularly through his involvement with the local Navy League. Following his time in the military, he moved to Houston, Texas, where he became the youngest stockbroker at his firm. It was there he married Jean Albin Kegler, the mother of his two children Eugene and Elizabeth.
After his time in Houston, Phil returned to Rockport where he flourished as a small business owner. Seeing a need for quality handyman services around the area, he started The House Doctor, and ultimately Rockport Property Inspections. He was a handyman at heart, always seeking creative solutions to any problem. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to community service became hallmarks of his life.
It was in Corpus Christi where Phil met Elaine Kline. In 1995 they married, expanding his family to include her three children, Meryl, Michael and David.
Phil dedicated his life to improving the world around him. He was an active Rotarian, serving as President of the Rotary Club of Rockport in 2001 and continuing the legacy of his father who chartered the club in 1948. Phil was also involved in the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce contributing his time and energy to enhance the area he cherished.
Phil spent countless hours fishing the waters of Rockport and South Texas, hunting, gardening, and boating. In his later years he turned his attention to genealogy and history, immersing himself in the local histories of Rockport, Fulton, and South Texas. Phil and Elaine traveled all across the region exploring historical sites and celebrating the area's storied past. He loved Rockport’s vibrant art scene, supported many local artists, and enjoyed attending the annual Rockport Art Festival. His love for his community and South Texas was evident in every aspect of his life.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Kline Albin, who passed away on September 10, 2024. He is survived by his children and stepchildren: Eugene Albin (Elizabeth), Elizabeth Albin Meza (Julio), Meryl Kline Fein, Michael Kline (Michelle Miller), and David Kline (Lori); and grandchildren Benjamin, Whitney (Blake), Brooke, Jared (Amanda), Jade (Charles), Chloe, Jacob, Elliott, Sean, William, Genevieve, and Luisa.
A memorial service for Phil will be held on January 25th at 11:00 am at the Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport followed by interment of ashes at the Rockport Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Phil’s memory to the Rotary Club of Rockport or the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
