Patrick Joseph King, born in Kilfoylan, Moate, CO Offaly, Ireland (close to the Westmeath border) ) on January 18, 1931, to Patrick and Bridget (Flanagan) King passed away on June 26, 2024, at the age of 93 leaving behind a legacy as robust as his spirit. In a family of eight siblings, Patrick was the third born among four brothers and four sisters with whom he steadfastly maintained deep connections. As a young lad, independent, disciplined, brave, and active. He garnered a reputation for his tireless work ethic and ambition, sending him to various areas of Ireland and eventually landing him in Sheffield, England.
His passion for dancing and music led him on a serendipitous journey to meet the love of his life, Margaret from Roscommon, at a dance hall in Sheffield. One dance led to an everlasting marriage of 63 years on October 6, 1956. The newlyweds then crossed the Atlantic with his brother, Johnny, finding themselves in the land of maple syrup, Kingston, Ontario, and welcoming their first daughter and son. Not delighting in the cold weather, they followed his brother, Dennis, to the potatoes of Whataburger settling in Kingsville, Texas in 1960. They added four more children to their Irish clan and became engrained in St. Gertrude Catholic Church. In 1969, Patrick and his hooligans relocated to find his home away from home in Ingleside, Texas.
Patrick created deep roots in the community of Ingleside. He played a pivotal role alongside Father Doherty in establishing the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. He remained a devout member and enjoyed the fellowship by contributing his time to the Knights of Columbus. His infectious passion for dance and music created everlasting relationships at the yearly Irish dances in San Antonio where you could find him always on the dance floor and never missing a beat. He took great pride in his membership at the Moose Lodge 2063, where he found camaraderie and a positive impact on his community. Patrick skillfully balanced his family, passions, and career throughout his life. Patrick's strong work ethic was evident throughout his career and relationships at Brown and Root, where he retired in 1996. Retired life didn't stop him from moving and was centered around his faith, family, outdoors, enjoying his Moose membership, and never knowing who would walk through the back door for a back porch chat.
His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, reunited with his beloved Margaret in eternal dance in the fields of green. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
