Born July 22, 1936, Patrick Hartman died peacefully in his home on May 20, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife Rena, his sister Suzan Smith, his daughters Kathleen Stuckert, Leigh Gleaton and Gretchen Tucker, his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his much loved companions Tuffy and Moxie.
Patrick was born in Dallas,Texas and served in the Army for three years. After attending college and working in the family tile business, he began his 20-year career with Greyhound Bus Lines. Upon retirement he relocated to South Texas. Patrick re-opened the tile business in Rockport which he operated continuously for 23 years. It was in Rockport that Patrick met and married the love of his life Rena Bradshaw.
Patrick was an active member of the community, giving of his time as an auctioneer for local benefits and charities. He was a regular volunteer for the Coastal Bend Troop Support. Patrick was a proud member of the GI Forum and the American Legion for over 20 years, serving as Commander of the American Legion from 1993 to 1994.
Patrick was a compassionate man who never met a stranger. He was a storyteller, an award-winning gumbo chef, a loving husband and father, and a "cool" grandfather. His youthful spirit and generosity will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Coastal Bend Troop Support or your local Humane Society are appreciated.
