Odie Hodge

December 6, 1929 — January 1, 2019

Aransas Pass, Texas

Odie William Hodge peacefully passed away January 1, 2019, surrounded by family. Odie was born December 6, 1929 in Polar Bluff, missouri. his parents Frank F. Hodge and Ethel S. (Wheeling) Hodge, siblings Doris Hodge, Freida Hodge, Avril Hodge, Alva Hodge, Rosie E. Lane, Melvin F. Hodge, Dewey F. Hodge, Charles B. Hodge, his grandson Michael L. Bowen, preceded him in death.

Odie's life truly began when he met the love of his life, Mary. They settled in Poplar Bluff, Missouri where they raised their young family. Odie worked at the local meat packing plant, while also running the family farm. Work was in his blood! In the 70's, Odie moved his mostly grown family to the Texas coast. He worked as a butcher at HEB for many years, before becoming an industrial painter. He ended his working career as a self-employed "jack of all trades" handyman. Even in his retirement years he was still working and proving that he was fit and capable; even daring the youngins' to a push-up contest while well into eighties. He spoke often about death being around the corner, but his strong will kept him alive more than 15 years after doctors gave him mere months to live.

Odie was a loyal and faithful servant of Jehovah of God. He was baptized September 3, 1950 alongside his wife. He worked countless hours in the field ministry and served as an elder in the Aransas Pass congregation. His joy and dedication in serving Jehovah were apparent to all he met. While his body prevented his attendance at meetings his heart was always with Jehovah.

Odie is survived by three adult children, Carolyn S. Bowen, Frank F. Hodge (Susan), Doris A Storie (Donald), grandchildren Michelle Metcalf (Chris), Marcia Freeman (Brad), Monica Beckley (Ralph), Renae Hodge, Stacey McNeal (Chad), Shane Storie (Nicole), great-grandchildren Brittany Gilbert, Dylan Bowen, David Beckley (Ashley), Kyle Beckley, Ralph Beckley, Lauren Hodge, Megan White-head, Addison Hodge, Faith McNeal, Reed McNeal, and great-great grandchildren Eastyn Gilbert and Annastasia Beckley.
