Odie Evans

August 16, 1931 — July 30, 2019

Aransas Pass

Odie Mae Draper was born on August 16, 1931 to Albert and Bular Draper. She was raised in a large family on a farm in Alabama, where she was the 5th of 13 children.  Odie graduated from Council Training High school in 1952. She later graduated in 1955 from Ruth Poro's School of Cosmetology in Birmingham, Alabama.

She gave her life to Christ in 1952, at Netter Temple COGIC, Huntsville, AL. This saved and sanctified woman of God then married an active duty Military man, and from that union she had seven children.  They traveled around the country and the world. After many years of traveling, he retired in Washington State, where he later died.  After the death of her husband in 2002, she decided to live in Madison, Alabama where her family lived. October 2014, she and some of her children moved to Aransas Pass, Texas.

July 2019 she passed away, leaving behind her seven children: Dotha, Wiyona (Rosemon), Watson Jr., Latena, Lateran (Elizabeth), Tirrion, and Tirriona (Thomas). Eight grandchildren: Ronnye, Chyanne, Lateran Jr, Janayn, Jahdiel, Maxx, Morgan, and Marcus. Odie is survived by two brothers: Oscar (Geraldine) and Elton (Olena) and one sister: Beaulah. Also, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She became Church Mother or on the mother's board at each church she was a member: Frankfurt, Germany; Deridder, Louisiana; Ft. Ord, California; Ft. Lewis, Washington; Huntsville, Alabama; and finally, at Faith Mission COGIC, Aransas Pass, Texas.  She was a Godly guide to so many people.

She had a lifelong career as a Cosmetologist.  She was always busy, in addition to her career she has worked as a seamstress, making garments for her friends, church members, and her children.  Odie loved to cook. She did institutional cooking for grand hotels, schools, and nursing facilities. She also enjoyed doing carpentry work, helping with the complete remodeling of her own house and two of the churches where she was a member.

In November 2009 she was stricken with a rare type of stomach cancer. She had the tumor surgically removed. Afterward she sought the Lord's guidance, and following His instructions, she decided not to have chemotherapy or take any cancer medication. The Lord in His infinite healing got rid of the cancer. He left her here to do some more work for him.

July 30, 2019 God had His own plans for Odie Mae Evans.  He took her away from her suffering here to be at peace with him. In our hearts and minds we know that she has gone to a better place.  Eternal joy with her Heavenly Father.

Here on earth we will always miss her, knowing we will not see her again. But we have all the wonderful memories:  Her Godly life, her beautiful smile, how she treated people, her unconditional love for others, her words of wisdom, how she dressed appropriately for every occasion.

She was honest and true in all she said and did. To everyone she met, no matter how they looked.  Odie M. Evans will always be remembered.
