Nancy Luella McCullough passed away on August 12, 2020. She was 87 years of age. Nancy was born on February 24, 1933 in Ingleside, Texas to Audrey and Benjamin Hackney.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; and her two brothers, Ben and Jim Hackney.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Lawson(Bob) and Becky McCullough; two grandchildren, Donnie Lawson(Amy) and Bobby Lawson(Amanda); and six great-grandchildren.
Nancy was a lifelong resident of Ingleside and the surrounding area. She was the Valedictorian of the 1950 graduating class of Ingleside High School.
In 1952 she set sail across the Atlantic on the SS United States to marry a young Army Sergeant who was stationed in Mannheim, Germany. Even though that union did not last a lifetime it produced two loving daughters.
Nancy attended Del Mar College and received an Associate’s Degree in Journalism. She was editor of the campus newspaper, The Foghorn, and was inducted into the Del Mar College Hall of Fame.
She enjoyed cooking and was a good cook, so much to the fact that she qualified for the first General Electric employee and spouses bake-off held in Louisville, KY. She won an electric stove in the competition and resourcefully traded that for piano lessons for her two girls.
Nancy was an early advocate of nutrition and many years ago preached on deaf ears about preservatives, food coloring, and hormone-treated meats. In that and many other respects she marched to the beat of her own drum.
Nancy loved classical music and was a long-time season ticket holder of the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. She instilled that love of classical music to both of her girls, one of the few things they have in common.
The last six decades of her life her passion was astrology. Nancy taught adult education classes in astrology at two different colleges and self-published several books on the subject. Even though her readership is relatively small in the grand scheme, it reaches to the corners of the globe.
The family thanks Duane Wilson, LVN, of Coastal Palms Nursing Home & Rehab. Duane was always able to win a smile to Nancy’s face, just by being in her room. Thank you for the smiles.
The family wishes to especially thank Roberta Brooks, part-time caregiver, with whom Nancy shared a very special bond.
Nancy succumbed to complications of COVID-19.
