Myrtle Stewart Wendell, age 95, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Gulf Pointe Plaza in Rockport. She was born in San Patricio County August 7, 1923, to Orin Taylor Stewart and Mabel Browning Stewart. Myrtle Married Travis Roquette “Bill” Wendell in Fulton on May 3, 1941.
Myrtle lived all her life in Rockport/Fulton except for two occasions. In the 1940’s during World War II, she and Bill were in California while he served in the Navy Seabees. She spent nearly nine months in Austin, TX after being evacuated for Hurricane Harvey. She was very happy to come back home in May, 2018, where she was met at the door with friends, flowers and balloons. Myrtle had a huge smile on her face even though the trip from Austin was very hard for her sitting in a wheelchair.
She was called Aunt Myrt by her family who loved having their family gatherings at Bill and Myrtle’s home. She was a very good cook and a smiling hostess.
Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband Bill, as well as three sisters and four brothers.
She is survived by her nephew, Scott Stewart of Fulton; her niece, Kathy Johnson of San Antonio; several great-nieces and great-nephews; her loving caregiver and friend of seven years, Celia Rodriguez, and other friends.
