On October 18th, 2018, Milton Howard Matheny, of Rockport Texas, age 84, went to be with the Lord, and his beloved wife, Juanita.
Preferring to go by Howard, he is survived by his son and daughter in law, Rodney and Debra Matheny. His grandchildren, Christina Matheny, Rhonda Moore, Garth Matheny, and Rodney James Matheny. And his great-grandchildren Natalie, Noah, Nicholas Moore, and Bryn Matheny.
Howard was born on February 26th, 1934 in Akron, Ohio. He served in the army from 1956 - 1958 in the Big Red One Inf. Div., and after began employment in the Post Office in Marathon, Florida Keys. He met his wife, Juanita Matheny in 1959, when she came into his post office, later recalling to his Grandchildren that "He had to meet that girl". They were wed the following year, then welcomed a son, Rodney. Howard retired as Postmaster in 1987.
Howard enjoyed fishing, diving, traveling, yard work, and was talented in photography, firearms, and reloading. As a child, his family spent many days fishing all over the country while traveling. As an adult in the Florida Keys, he could often be found deep sea diving. He taught his son Rodney to dive, and later his daughter in law joined them, continuing traditions of family time well spent. Howard and Juanita found traveling the west of the United States to be very beautiful. They did most of their travels exploring Indian Ruins with Juanita on the back of Howard's Motorcycle! In their later years, when the motorcycle days were done, they loved traveling to the Hill Country. Howard was always behind the camera, photographing and filming weddings, church events, family gatherings, and anything that he found to be interesting or special. The family will cherish many of the memories he captured for years to come. Howard truly loved the Matheny's relocation to Rockport, TX, allowing him to be near his family, plus have 8.5 acres of yard "to play on". He was the classic Outdoor Man!
Howard was full of humor, and life, but also so full of love. The family wishes to celebrate Howard's life on Earth with a memorial at First Assembly of God located at 813 E Laurel St, Rockport TX on Friday, November 2nd, 2018, at 7 PM.
