Michael Nolen

d. February 23, 2018

Aransas Pass - It is with immense sadness that we acknowledge that our beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, Michael David Nolen passed from this earth Friday, February 23, 2018 at the age of 74. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Charlie Marshall Funeral home in Aransas Pass TX, Reverend William Riley officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 to 9:00 PM.

He was born on January 4, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Paul D. Nolen and Bessie Dell Segrest Nolen. He served in the United States Army and was part of the 67th infantry division.

In 1972 he started \"rough necking\" for what was then Field Drilling company and retired after 42 years of service in January 2014 from Nabors Drilling Inc. He was a mentor to many young impressionable men whom he lovingly called his \"sons\". One of his motto's that he tried to pass along to his employee's, is that he wanted to always be Firm, Fair, and Consistent. During his retirement party, it was said that he had left his mark on many who worked with him and also their industry and that his contributions would continue with the men for many years to come.

He had many passions, one of which was cooking and serving others. Sunday afternoons after church were like none other. Many have already mentioned the memories of sitting around the ole dinner table eating \"Mike's\" specialties. He especially loved having the church pastor and his family, evangelist's, missionary's, relatives, and a multitude of friends over to eat. Another passion of his, was \"crabbing\". He could not wait until the first part of the warm season to go \"test\" the waters. He would take anyone who was looking to have an adventure.

Last but certainly not least, was his love for his \"girls\" Ruby, Michelle and Brande. There was nothing that he would not do for them. He sacrificed many birthdays, holidays and special occasions in order for them to have a life different from his own growing up. Nothing was too small or too great for his \"girls\". Although lacking in his own upbringing in his formative years, he ensured that he was there for his daughters in their formative years and beyond. He taught them honesty, integrity and what real work ethics are. He was there to support them through their decisions and loved them unconditionally even though opinions may have differed. Another love that he was privileged to experience, was a love for a Son-in-law (Bryan) whom he loved more like a son rather than a son-in-law. We would be amiss not to mention his great love for his \"fur-babies\" Bailey, Maci and Mia

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and sister Bessie Irene Proctor. He is survived by his wife Ruby Lown Nolen; daughters Michelle Nolen and Brande Nolen Nesom and Husband Bryan, \"adopted daughter\" MaryAnn Fontenot and husband Greg; \"adopted son\" Miguel Briseno wife Dolores and daughter Melissa; sister Mildred \"Mickey\" Granier and husband Russell and Joyce Ferris; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special mentionable \"like family\" Jordan and Rebekah Day and children Arabella and Elliauna.

Pallbearers are Paul Bundick, David McKinney, James Lown, Miguel Briseno, Ram Salinas, and Ruben Trevino.

There is a huge void in our hearts as we feebly attempt to say goodbye. But we have this confidence that this is not the last time we will be together again. Because we serve a merciful and loving God who answered \"our \" 39 years of prayer a few short days ago and filled him with that precious Holy Ghost. As the song says, we have more to go to heaven for then we had yesterday.
