Rockport

Michael Edwin Murphy, beloved son of Lewis and Frances Murphy, was born on November 2, 1954, in El Paso, Texas, and passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, in Portland, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents and his only sibling, Patrick Murphy. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dina Murphy, along with his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cherished friends, all of whom were deeply touched by his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit. Michael grew up in New Braunfels, Texas, where he graduated from Canyon High School. He and his brother Patrick were inseparable, raising plenty of mischief alongside Pat’s football teammates. Despite the challenges life handed him, Michael remained a beacon of joy, gratitude, and resilience. His smile could light up any room, and his laughter was infectious. He never let his wheelchair slow him down—in fact, it became a source of joy for his great-nieces and nephews, who delighted in the endless rides he happily gave them. A man of deep faith, Michael was a devoted Christian who found comfort in knowing he would one day be reunited with his family in heaven. He was also a proud 3rd Degree Mason, a role that reflected his commitment to community and brotherhood. In his adult years, Michael took on the self appointed role of president at his care home, making sure everything ran smoothly and keeping everyone in line with his signature humor and charm. But more than anything, he treasured the time spent with loved ones—Murphy family gatherings, holiday dinners, and any opportunity to be surrounded by those he held dear. His gregarious and loving nature made him the heart of every room he entered, and his absence leaves a void that can never truly be filled. Michael’s legacy is one of love, perseverance, and joy. He faced life’s challenges with a courageous heart, never losing sight of the blessings around him. While we will miss him dearly, we find peace in knowing that he has been welcomed home with open arms, reunited with his family, and embraced by the love of the Lord. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on March 6th, 2025 at 3:00p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (Pavilion 4). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by sharing a meal with loved ones, telling a great story in his memory, or offering kindness to a friend in need—just as Michael would have done.
