Matthew Decker

Matthew Phillip Decker, our one and only beloved son, went home to his heavenly Father on Sunday, May 19, 2019. He was 36. He was born on July 23, 1982 in Abilene, Texas.

Matt had a history of physical challenges that he struggled everyday to overcome. He was a child of God in every sense and to his dying day, trusted that God would welcome him into His Heavenly kingdom.

Matt was a 2000 graduate of Rockport/Fulton High School. He participated in football, played the cornet in the band, and made many friends along the way. He was also a US Army veteran.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Phil and Jo Anna. He is also survived by his uncles and aunts: Dan and Tam Sherrel, Mike and Patti Decker, Howard and Dinah Taff, and Linda Decker, and numerous other cousins, and by his dog, Josie Wells. Preceding him in death his maternal grandparents Chuck and Grace Maddox, his paternal grandparents John and Dulce Decker, his uncle John Decker and his cousin Gina Bates.

A memorial will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday May 24, 2019 at The First Baptist Church of Rockport with Dr. Scott Jones officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Matt's name to the American Diabetes Association, or The Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America.
