Lydia Potorenski

January 28, 1938 — February 26, 2025

Ingleside

Lydia Francis Potorenski, age 87, of Ingleside TX, passed away peacefully to her favorite song surrounded by her loving family. She joined Thomas Potorenski, her loving husband of 56 years in Heaven. Born January 28, 1938, in San Diego, TX to Pedro Villarreal and Mercedes Serna.

Lydia is survived by and will be deeply missed by her five children, Faustino Villareal (Nelda), Jesse Villarreal (Rosie), Charles Tanner (Stacey), Thomas J Potorenski Jr. (Genalle), and Gia Gates (Fiance Robbie), her over 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her beloved dog Chico.

Lydia lived a life that was full of love joy and family. Her door was always open and through that door, you knew to expect a smile, a fresh meal, and plenty of her delicious homemade cakes and cookies.

Lydia also had a life of adventure, traveling with her Navy Husband around the world. She refused to go anywhere looking less than stunning whether it be a grand event or out to the mailbox and that tradition continued through her final days.

She was well-known throughout the bingo halls and would always grab everyone's attention when she arrived. She enjoyed her trips to the casinos. Win or lose, she made sure it was a good time.

She spent most of her time in her kitchen making delicious food and sweets for her family, friends, and anyone else who could use a smile. If she knew you were visiting, she would always try and make your favorite meal just for you. Anyone who visited her home was treated as family.

Her tamales were almost as legendary as she was and despite teaching her descendants there will never be a replacement for the love she put in her food. (sorry Katie)

Lydia was a devoted catholic. She was an active member of Our Lady of Assumption serving the church for 47 years. She always offered her support and the support of her family for church events.

Lydia was the most pure example of kindness, love, and joy we have ever known. Beautiful inside and out. She blessed this world with her presence for 87 years and although we are saddened by her passing, we are happy that this angel is back with God where she belongs.

Blessed were we to have a Mother, one so patient, kind, and true. No other one could replace the love we felt from you.

When friendships faded or love was lost to you we would return for your lessons of peace and kindness eager to learn.

As we look upon your pictures the sweetest memories we recall, are of your face so full of grace, bringing smiles to us all. Lord, please take this message to our angel up above tell momma that we miss her and give her all our love.
