Leonard Sawyer

Leonard "Buz" Sawyer, 86, of Ingleside, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Opal Sawyer and his son, Terry Sawyer.

Buz is survived by his wife of 21 years, Frances; four Children, Jim (Kendra) Sawyer, Judy (Don) Cooper, June (Steven) Vincze, and Kirk (Dana) Nichols; daughter-in-law Angela Sawyer; 14 grandchildren, Christy, Brian, Jeff, Cody, Robert, Amanda, Carter, Dillon, Meagan, John, Mark, Matthew, Andrew and Sarah; and numerous great-grandchildren, who will all miss Buz and not forget his memory.

Buz graduated from Abilene High School and McMurray College. He joined the United States Air Force in October of 1950 and retired as a Lt. Col. on August 28, 1991. During this time, he was also a mathematics teacher at Lincoln Jr. High School in Abilene. Buz spent many hours with the amateur theater as an actor, and is a member of The Screen Actor's Guild and appeared on stage and in 2 motion pictures.

Buz married Dorothy Imken in 1952 and they were married for 34 years. Together they had 3 children...Judy, Jim & Terry.

In 1993, Buz and Frances moved to Ingleside where they resided after his retirement. He was an instructor for 6 years of the Columbus Fleet and Captain of the Forward Mast on the Niña, sailing in the Bay of Corpus Christi. He was active in the Lions and Governor of District 2A3 from 2006 - 2007. He was a member of Coastal Bend Radio Club for the past five years.
His favorite sport was football, specifically Dallas Cowboy football. In retirement he made a sport of working on his computer.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church of Ingleside, TX, located at 2248 Morgan Ln. A reception will follow at the Fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers the family would like to honor "Buz's" wishes and kindly ask that you donate to The Lion's Camp of Kerrville. Located at 4100 San Antonio Highway, Kerrville, TX 78028.
