Lawrence Key Merchant Jr. (Key) passed away on November 19, 2022 at his home in Rockport, Texas. He was born in Harlingen, Texas on November 26, 1942 and lived all over south Texas while growing up. He graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Wildlife Biology. While attending there, he was granted the opportunity to work for the South West Institute for Primate Research and lived in Africa with his family for seven years. Upon his return to the United States, he began working at the Army Corps of Engineers as a Project Manager, where he worked until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He spent his retirement living in Trinidad, Colorado during the summer and wintered in Rockport, Texas.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Rita. Key is survived by his sons Mike (Barb) and Tim (Laura), his grandchildren Brooke Cope (Joshua), Jillian Garcia (Rico), and Keythur Merchant, and his great grandchildren Kennedy Starr and Lilyana Garcia.
He was a world traveler and lived life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered.
