Lawrence Jay "Dup" Duplichan of Rockport, Texas, died May 9th, 2017. Dup was born November 1, 1933 in Kinder, La to Gladys Landreneau Duplichan and Lawrence Duplichan. He graduated from Kinder High School in 1952 and McNeese State College in Lake Charles, La in 1956. While attending McNeese, he played varsity football and was on the track team. In 1954 he met his future wife, Kay DuMoulin whom he would be married to for 61 years. Upon graduation, he entered the military and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, serving two years active duty and time in the Active Reserves. Dup enjoyed a 36 year professional career in the insurance business with Jefferson Pilot in Louisiana and in Texas. He retired as Houston Regional Manager for Jefferson Pilot in 1994.
Dup and Kay moved to Rockport, Texas soon after his retirement where he enjoyed a second career in politics and community service. Dup served on the Rockport City Council for three years and was a past President of the Aransas County Conservation & Reclamation Board.
He was the founder of the 100 Club of Aransas County and served as Executive Director from 1995 to 2015. He had a passion for supporting law enforcement officers and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars on their behalf through his work on the 100 Club.
Dup also spent 14 years volunteering his time on the USS Lexington where he combined his love of history and his great sense of humor entertaining and educating school children on field trips through the Education Department.
In his younger days, Dup enjoyed racing motocross with his family on his CZ. He also spent many weekends with his family fishing offshore and boating along the Texas coast. His children have fond memories of the great family road trips planned by him. He loved Cajun music and was an accomplished accordion player. In the past 20 plus years, he enjoyed participating in and supporting Kay in running events around the country.
Dup is survived by his wife Kay, daughters Donna Kouwe (Mark) and Diane Rech (Kevin), sons Rick (Kimi) and Scott (Wendy) and beloved grandchildren Megan Rech, Christopher Rech, Katherine Duplichan and Kimberly Duplichan all of Houston. He is also survived by his sister Burnelle Taylor and his nieces Sharon, Shelly and Sharla and nephew Roy.
