Kevin Farrell

Kevin W. Farrell, 54, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Farrell, a self-employed electrical contractor, lived in Rockport for the past four years. He was a native of Austin, and continued to work in Austin as well as Rockport serving clients with high quality, professional electrical work.

Farrell is survived by his wife, Melissa Henson Farrell; three sons: Cory Farrell (Desirae); Kyle Farrell (Devon); and Casey Farrell (Megan); three grandchildren: Avery Farrell, Sawyer Farrell, and Carson Farrell; his parents, Chuck and Agnes Farrell; a sister, Stacy Farrell Robertson (Tommy); three nieces, Ashlee Rogers, Natalie Robertson, and Allison Robertson.

Farrell was a life-long outdoorsman and passed away while doing what he loved-fishing on Copano Bay. Much of his free time was spent playing with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Poppy." He also was very fond of his daughters-in-law; in a toast Kevin made recently at his youngest son's wedding, his daughters-in-law had "stolen his heart," he said.

Kevin was known as a great provider for his family and for supplying excellent service for his clients. He was a man of integrity and hard work and was viewed as a role model by his sons' friends. One friend expressed gratitude that Kevin "showed me how to be a real man."

Kevin's passing has been tragic, but the response of the community has been of great comfort to the family. While Kevin was missing in Copano Bay, dozens of boaters, many of them complete strangers, searched for hours over three days. Fixed wing aircraft and helicopters also joined the search. The untiring efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Highway Patrol Marine Unit, the Aransas County Sheriff's Department as well as Texas Equusearch was greatly appreciated. Others provided food and water to the search party and others simply came to offer support and comfort to the family.

The family clings to the biblical ideal that from tragedy and evil, God will do good. "But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." (Genesis 50.20 NKJV) The unselfish love and support of the community was one strong element of God's grace from this tragedy. Another element of good for the family in the midst of their loss is the reminder that all boaters should wear a personal flotation device at all times on the water. It is the family's hope that, in Kevin's memory, everyone can enjoy the water safely by wearing a life preserver.

The Celebration of Kevin's Life will take place Saturday, May 20th, at Memory Lane Event Center, located at 403 K C Memory Lane, Dripping Springs, Texas. The service will begin at 1 pm. Fellowship and refreshments will follow after the service.
