Justyne Mixon Cox

Justyne Mixon Cox departed this life on October 25, 2018 after a long illness. She was born on July 11, 1932 in Rockport, Texas to Pat Mixon and Ruby Mae Walling Mixon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her uncle and aunt Bill and Gustava Walling Cavitt, her second husband James S. Cox, the father of her six children C. F. "Dick" Schendel, her baby daughter Mae Gale Schendel, son William Joel "Bill" Schendel, her brother and sister-in-law Joel and Jo Beth Janecek Mixon, and sister-in-law Charlotte Cron Mixon.

Justyne is survived by her brother, Ed Pat Mixon; her children Richard Earl Schendel, Robert Edward Schendel (Norma), Pat Justin Schendel (Tess), Cynthia Ann "Cindy" Schendel Nankervis (Bryan), and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Justyne taught school early in her life and later worked as a secretary and teacher's aide at Ingleside High School where her mother Ruby was the librarian. They drove to work together from Rockport for many years and were known to get into the occasional heated discussion. Justyne had a dramatic flair and she loved to tell colorful stories about growing up during the Great Depression and World War II with her brothers and many friends in South Rockport and later in Runge, Texas. Her love of Texas history and family genealogy led her to join the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a membership she retained until her death.

A graveside service will be held at Rockport Cemetery on November 10 at 11:00 am with a reception to be held immediately afterwards at a location to be provided at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of flowers, please honor Justyne's love of Rockport with a donation in her memory to the History Center for Aransas County, P.O. Box 106, Fulton, TX 78358, friends@thehistorycenterforaransascounty.org .

Mom, we take comfort in our faith and belief that you are holding baby Mae Gale with Bill by your side as those who have gone on before you gather round to welcome you home. Let our grief fade away as we remember what you would tell us whenever we thought that our world was falling apart: "This too shall pass." Until we meet again.
