Rockport

June Carter, 81, of Rockport, passed away with her family at her side on February 21st at Doctor’s Regional Hospital in Corpus Christi. She was born January 12th, 1939 in Wichita Falls, a daughter of Charles Foster Bebout and Violet Elizabeth Crawford. In 1955, while her family was living in Odessa, June met and married Jack Carter.

In 1959, Jack and June moved to Colorado to pursue employment opportunities. June worked in property management and began selling real estate over a 20 year period. She and Jack owned a Chevron service station for 5 years and shortly thereafter June started a successful flower shop. In 1969, June was appointed Town Clerk of Dillon, Co. While pursuing her careers, June acted as the accountant for Jack’s construction company.

In 1979, June and Jack moved to Fulton and purchased the Starfish Mobile Home park. June had lived on the coastal bend as a child and returned to the area to care for her parents. Fifteen years later, they acquired the Sage Motel in Kingsville and stayed in the hospitality business until 1996. It was then that they purchased 10 acres in Peninsula Oaks subdivision in Rockport to retire.

In their retirement they raised various types of birds. June loved animals and she enjoyed keeping and participating in breeding parrots, cockatiels, ostrich, emus, rheas, quail, and pheasants. Cats and dogs were always present in her homes. Having been a florist, she decorated extensively with plants inside and outside her home. As a youngster June learned to sew and enjoyed making clothes for her family. In retirement she began an embroidery company which allowed her to continue to be creative.

June was a strong woman who was devoted to her family. June will be missed by all those she has touched. She is survived by her husband, Jack Carter, her daughter Carol Schottleutner, her son-in-law Kevin Schottleutner, grandson William and his wife Maureen Schottleutner and grandson Eric Schottleutner, and her great granddaughter Kylie Renae Schottleutner.

Funeral services will be held Monday March 9th at 2pm in Rockport
