Judith Galipo

Judith Albin Galipo, 83, of Rockport, TX, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2018, with her children by her side.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well. In My Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am." John 14: 1-3

Judith (Judy) was born to Eugene J. Albin and Helen G. Squires, on April 11, 1935, in Mercedes, TX. She attended Rockport High School and graduated in 1953. After high school Judy studied briefly at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX and it was there that she met Robert (Bob) E. Woodbury. The two married in 1954 shortly after Bob received his Navy "wings". Judy spent the next twenty years as a Naval Officer's wife -- dedicated to her family and her country. The family moved many times during Bob's Naval career, eventually settling in Emporia, KS. Judy was a devoted mother of four children, filling their home with love, games, laughter and memories.

Judy moved back to Rockport, her favorite place on earth and "home" to her, after a divorce in 1979. It was in Rockport that she met and fell in love, for the second and last time, with Dennis "Deano" Galipo. They were married May 7, 1982. Judy and Deano loved to travel and spent much of their marriage traveling all over the United States and Mexico.

Judy was the kindest person, who loved unconditionally all those she met. Her favorite pastimes were playing bridge at the Women's Club of Aransas County and in bridge clubs around Rockport, and being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved playing card and board games with them and she just couldn't be beat at scrabble. An avid recreationalist, Judy loved to be outside -- especially in Rockport. After growing up playing in the bays of Aransas County, she loved sharing the simple pleasures of Rockport with her grandchildren. During the summers, you could find Judy throwing a cast net, crabbing, seine fishing and exploring the beach with her grandchildren.

In 2011 Judy was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, and although this disease took control of her mind and body, Judy's undeniable spirit, humor, wit, and love for life and people never left her. She continued to bring joy and laughter to her family and caregivers, even in the final days of her life. Judy's caregivers loved her and expressed to her family the happiness she brought into their lives every day.

Judith is survived by her husband, Dennis P. Galipo of Rockport, TX, and two of her children, Stephen P. Woodbury of Salina, KS and Margaret (Margo) Smith of Rockport, TX. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Garren Johnson, Brittany (Darryl) Dadon, Matthew Wilkins, Tiffany (Drew) Crist, Sarah Smith, Michael (Kristin) Woodbury, Great Grandson Colton Michael James Woodbury, Christopher Woodbury and William Smith and her step-children, Steven Galipo, Debra (Leslie) Magee, granddaughter Katlyn (Galipo) Magee, and Great Grandson Dominic Rogers.

Judith is preceded in death by her parents and two of her children, Anne Woodbury Johnson and James R. Woodbury.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Rockport, Pastor Scott Jones officiating.
