Joe G. Barrera Sr.
03/06/1938 – 03/14/2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joe G. Barrera, Sr., who left this world peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the age of 87. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Joe’s life was a testament to love, faith, and generosity.
With a heart as strong as the metal he welded, Joe lived with quiet strength and unwavering faith. He was married to the love of his life, Gloria, for 62 beautiful years—a shining example of devotion and commitment that will echo through generations.
Born the eldest of twelve children, Joe embraced his role as a big brother, always leading with love, laughter, and a helping hand. He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, Juan and Victoria Medrano Barrera, and his siblings—sisters Lupe, Mary, Sue, Concha, and Frances, and brothers John and Robert.
A man of deep faith and a devout Catholic, Joe’s generosity touched everyone around him. When Sacred Heart Catholic School first opened, he dedicated countless hours to keeping Sacred Heart Church and School in excellent order—whether by fixing the church bell or crafting swings for children to enjoy. To Joe, there were no strangers—only friends he had yet to meet. His kindness knew no bounds, and he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
Joe’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Gloria; his children, Joe Barrera, Jr., Julie (Dennis), Theresa (Adrian), and Jorge (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Orlando (Jeana) Solis, Joseph Solis, Emily (Kyle) Luce, Audrianna (Omar) Gonzalez, Jace, and Jena Barrera; and his great-grandchildren, Juston, Kaitlynn, Jaxon, and Greyson Solis, and Jonah and Nova Lee Luce. He is also survived by his remaining brothers and sisters.
Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is watching over us—reunited with his loved ones and welcomed into God’s embrace. His legacy of faith, hard work, and kindness will live on in the lives he touched.
