John Cleo Atkinson of Rockport Texas passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022. Like his father before him, John was a builder of homes and a consistent example of the love of Jesus.
He was born in Buffalo Gap Texas on April 20, 1930.
John graduated in Colorado from Palisade High School. After returning from the Korean war, he used his GI bill to obtain his degree at Colorado State University.
December 30, 1950, he married Esther Louise Collins in Pueblo, Colorado. They were married for 72 years.
John was a General Contractor. He loved to build things, and specialized in residential construction and remodeling. He taught Esther and all his children, their spouses, & their children how to build and repair things. It is a legacy that will bless our family for generations to come.
John and Esther were faithful members of Coastal Oaks church in Rockport. John was involved in every project that involved a hammer and nails at the church. (Well, while he always had a hammer in his tool belt, but he sure did love those air tools and battery powered screw guns. He didn’t hesitate to get them in his truck or toolbox as soon as he could justify buying them!)
John had a passion for his family and living a life that displayed the constant love of God. If the doors of the church were open, John and Esther were there. He was a quiet man who was always watching and listening to observe where he could help fill a need.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by Esther, the love of his life. Also survived by his brother Jim (Carole).
Surviving children: Dave (Lucia), Steve (Kris) and Paula (Kevin); 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
There will be a service to celebrate the life of John Atkinson on November 23, 2022 at Coastal Oaks Church. Please join us!
