JoAnn Cheney “Mimi” Howard, 88, of Ingleside, TX died peacefully at home as was her greatest wish, on February 13, 2021, after a battle with COPD and cancer.
JoAnn was born in Raymondville, TX, February 3, 1933 to Herschel and Eva Cheney. She was married January 30, 1954 to W.R. “JIM” Howard while working in Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Howard, both her parents, her only sister Margie Mitchell and brothers Billy, Wayne and Jack Cheney.
Loved ones she left behind are her daughter, Joni Gayle Breithaupt and husband Don and her son Dennis Roy Howard and wife Julie. She had four granddaughters, Hilary Huerta (Jacob), Shelby Breithaupt, Kelley Howard Gonzalez (Marcus) and Kerri Ballard (Zach). She was also blessed with six great grandchildren, Jayce, Jolee and Alexis Huerta, Brody Briggs and Willa and Dean Ballard. She also leaves behind her beloved fur babies, Nibbles and Prince Cyrus.
Mimi JoAnn had many, self-taught talents such as cooking, cake decorating and sewing. Over many years she has done multiple birthday cakes, wedding cakes and made dozens of costumes and clothing repairs for all the family. She insisted on having big Sunday meals at her house and for some reason there would be extra guests “show up” to visit on those days.
She especially loved her role as Mimi, and treasured the time she spent with her grand and great grandkids. She has been attending every sport and school activity possible for over 60 years. Her home and yard were also sources of great joy when people would drive or walk by taking pictures and crowds of prom attendees used her yard as back drops for beautiful photos.
JoAnn will be missed greatly by those of us left behind but we gain comfort knowing she is with many loved ones and no longer limited by her failing body as she enters the sunset of her life.
A memorial service will be held at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home-Aransas Pass on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 2 pm.
