Jason Schmidt

Jason Paul Schmidt passed away on August 24, 2018 after a life filled with triumphs, struggles and many friends.
Jason was born on December 23, 1972 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Cindy Schmidt and later adopted by Darrell Schmidt in 1979, following their marriage in 1978. Jason, his siblings and parents moved to Portland, Texas (near Corpus Christi) in 1985, where he continued to live until his passing. Jason graduated from Gregory-Portland High School in 1991 and remained in contact with many of his classmates through the years. Jason worked construction and demolition jobs as a certified welder, laborer and heavy equipment operator. If you ever watched him on a Bobcat loader or an excavator, you knew he was in his world as he became one with the machine. Jason always loved animals and would never hesitate to take-in and care for an injured or wandering animal, be they birds, snakes, turtles, spiders or most any species he might encounter. Jason portrayed a tough exterior, but he was always a jokester and could be as silly as any child to the point that neighborhood kids would stop by to see if he wanted to come out and play.
Jason has one son, Keith Schmidt with Ester Perez, both of whom live in the Gregory-Portland area. Jason is survived by his parents, Darrell and Cindy Schmidt and his three sisters Tupou Schmidt, Jessica (Schmidt) Solis and Crystal Schmidt, all living in Texas. Jason is also survived by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who live throughout the western U.S.
