James Gilbert Cruser, 61, passed away in his home with family by his side Friday July 22nd 2022. Jim was born January 17th 1961 in Rockport, TX. As a young man, he was an Eagle Scout and excelled in basketball and other sports. He was dedicated and serious, and at 6’ 7”, he towered over most people. He attended Texas Tech University and Sul Ross State University, where he played basketball and earned a degree in Range and Wildlife Management. After college, Jim worked as a ranch manager in Goliad TX and a ranch hand on San Jose Island. He worked for AEP for nearly 30 years in various roles, most recently as a certified arborist and utility specialist.
Jim had many interests: animal husbandry, ranch work, sports, his children and grandchildren. He was a cowboy in every sense of the word. He was most content outside doing chores. He worked hard at the office, on the ranch, and at home. His first priority was always taking care of his family. He modeled and taught his children self-sufficiency. Though there were many aspects to who Jim was, his defining feature was his loyalty. He was a dedicated and loyal husband to Sandy, his wife of 25 years and father to his children. He even became a fan of Texas A&M Aggies for his daughters Cassi and Elizabeth.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Edith and James Cruser. He is survived his wife Sandy, his brother Charlie (Salty) Cruser and sister Debra Cruser. He is also survived by his children Kelcey (Nesha) Cruser, Cassi Cruser, Elizabeth Cruser, Stephanie (Nathan) Carruth, Shannon (David) Spaulding, Samantha (Enrique) Garza, Suzanne (Emmanuel) Lugo, Stacey Spaulding, Sarah Spaulding, and 17 grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service for Jim Saturday July 30th at 2 pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport Texas.
