Hector Acevedo
On Monday, December 10, 2018, Hector Acevedo, went to be with the Lord our Father. Hector was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather.
Hector was born on November 24, 1947, in Alice, Texas to Eulalio and Maria de Jesus Acevedo. He grew up in Agua Dulce, Texas and graduated from high school in 1967. After graduation he was called to join the military where he proudly served in the United States Army. Hector completed basic training in El Paso, Texas and his advanced training in Fort Ord, California. In August 1968, Hector and his fellow soldiers were sent to combat in Vietnam. During a mission on December 5, 1968, Hector was injured and lost his left leg in battle. He served his country bravely and as a Vietnam Veteran who was a Purple Heart recipient.
Once his military service ended, he attended college at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. There he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Geography and History, and a Master's degree in Education Administration. Hector then worked for Aransas Pass Independent School District for 35 years. During this tenure at APISD he was a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal at several schools throughout the district.
On October 9, 1970 Hector married the love of his life, Consuelo Lopez, and they were happily married for 48 years. Consuelo and Hector started a family and moved to Portland, Texas in 1976.
Together they had three children; Hector Acevedo, Jr. (Patty), Amy Marie Acevedo (Chris De Leon), and Amanda Acevedo Morris (Jon). He was also the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren; Samuel Evan Acevedo, Avery Grace Acevedo, Amarie Belle De Leon, Isaac Elan Acevedo, John Aydin Morris, Eli Michael Morris, and Amia Jazlyn De Leon.
A Rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, located at 1008 Austin Street in Portland, Texas . A funeral mass will follow at approximately 12:00 p.m.
Christian burial with full Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Coastal Bend State Veteran's Cemetery, located at 9974 I-37, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410, on Monday, December 17, 2018.
