Grace Allene Green of Rockport, Texas went home to be with Jesus on January 13, 2024, at the age of 78. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to being a source of love and support for her family. Grace was born on August 6,1945 in Houston,TX to Jim and Eva Marshall, joining her older brother Kendrick. In 1951, the Marshalls moved from Houston to San Antonio. “Gracie” loved riding her bike and selling her Girl Scout cookies in her historic neighborhood of Monte Vista. She attended Jefferson High School and joined one of America’s most historic pep squads, the Lassos, graduating in 1963. In 1963, Grace attended Texas A&I Kingsville where she met the love of her life, George Maynard Green. The couple married on September 4, 1964 at the home of her parents in San Antonio. Grace graduated from A&I receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She taught 4th grade in Austin, TX while Maynard completed his time in Law School at the University of Texas. In 1971, Grace and Maynard moved to Findlay, Ohio, and, shortly after, welcomed their two daughters, Kit and Traci. The family of four eventually moved back to Texas and settled in Waco, Texas in 1977. Grace was a creative and talented homemaker while raising her daughters. She went back to teaching school from 1989 to 1996, teaching 5th and 6th grade at Midway Intermediate School. In 2011, Grace and Maynard retired to their favorite vacation spot, Rockport, Texas. Grace cherished making memories on the Texas coast with her grandchildren and enjoyed painting beautiful watercolors of sunsets and her favorite white pelicans.
Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Grace is survived by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Maynard, their daughters Kit Bettes (D.E.) of Salado and Traci Meyers (Jeff) of Opelika AL, along with her six grandchildren Emme Manahan (Joey) of Salado, Kyley Bettes of Austin, Natalie Bettes of Salado, Marshall Meyers of Auburn, AL, George Meyers of Opelika, AL and Jonathan Meyers of Opelika, AL and three great-grandchildren, JR, Jack and Phoebe Manahan.
Grace was a woman of strong moral convictions and anchored by her relationship with Jesus Christ. She fought her end of life health challenges valiantly and will be loved and missed forever.
