Glenn Terrell

Glenn Edward Terrell of Rockport, Texas, passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2017, after a brief battle with Lewey body dementia and cancer. His beloved wife and children were at his side.

Glenn was born June 23, 1943, in West Monroe, La., to Teresa Bruce and Loy Glenn Smith. As a young boy, he was adopted by his mother's husband, Edward John Terrell, who raised him as his own. After attending school in Alice, Texas, Glenn chose to serve his country in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany for two years.

After returning to Texas after the conclusion of his military service, Glenn went to work in the oil fields, starting as a roughneck on drilling rigs for his dad Edward John Terrell's company, Perfectionist Cementing in Alice. He later joined ExxonMobil, where he enjoyed a long career that sent him around the world. Serving as a drilling supervisor, deep water drilling superintendent, and, later, a safety consultant, he was assigned to rigs in Australia, Vietnam, Venezuela, Congo, Nigeria, Columbia, Italy, Russia and Canada. In the jungles of Indonesia and Peru, he worked on a helicopter rig for remote locations. After retiring from Exxon Mobil, Glenn formed GET Drilling Consultants and continued to be in demand in the industry.

Glenn enjoyed a successful career, but his true loves were his family, his friends, the outdoors, and music - both kinds, country AND western. He particularly loved playing music with the professional musicians in his family, who allowed him to stand with them on the stage - as long as his guitar wasn't plugged in. (They always told him to keep his oilfield job!) As a young man, Glenn had his own band in Alice, called Uncle Will and Country Cousins. He started playing at the same time and in the same clubs as George Strait, but admitted that George did a little better with that music thing than he did.

Glenn married the former Barbara Pepper in Kilgore on Nov. 13, 1982; they recently celebrated their 35th anniversary. He and Barbara made their home in several locations in Texas and particularly treasured their time in Indonesia, where they made lifelong friends when Glenn had an extended assignment there. They also lived happily for many years in East Texas, where they still have many friends and family members.

After partially retiring in 2005, Glenn realized a longheld dream of moving back to south Texas, where he and Barbara built their dream house in Rockport overlooking the Texas coast and spent many happy hours on their boats, often with their children, grandchildren and friends. Glenn loved fishing, hunting, reading, watching Westerns, being on the water, and sharing a cold beer with friends. He particularly enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to fish, ride four-wheelers and play poker. Glenn was a Mason, Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite, and he belonged to the American Legion post in Rockport, Texas.

Wife of 35 years, Barbara Ann (Pepper) Terrell of Rockport.

Son, Glenn Terrell, Jr, and his fiancé Jacquelyn Moskalik of Tyler, Texas.

Daughter, Barbara Chavers and son-in-law Greg Chavers of Colleyville Texas.

Grandchildren, Sophie Chavers and Jack Chavers, of Colleyville, and Enzo Terrell, of Tyler.

Brother, Fred Terrell (Karen) of Kilgore, Texas.

Sisters, Teresa Terrell of Fort Worth and Sherry Smith Walker, (Billy) of Eros, La.

Sister-in-laws, Carolyn Hanlon of Mauriceville, Texas; Reba Sue Marburger of Yoakum, Texas; Norma Hunter of Kilgore, Texas; and Mary Jo Terrell of Crosby, Texas.

Brother-in-laws, William Pepper, David Pepper, and Randy Hunter, all of Kilgore, Texas; and Clifford Pepper (Karen) of New London, Texas.

Goddaughter, Casey Hileman Dentler.

Glenn is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother John Paul Terrell; mother-in-law, JoAnn Pepper; father-in-law, Robert Pepper, Sr; and brother-in-law, Robert Pepper, Jr.

Services:

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Jan. 2, 2018, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas, with the eulogy by Chaplain Alex Saenz.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 4, 2018, at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas.

A second memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 5, 2018, at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas.

A private burial will be planned at a later date.
