On January 5, 2024, Genaro "Jerry" Avitia passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Genaro was born on February 5, 1940 in Ingleside, TX to parents Genaro and Hipolita Avitia.
He is preceded in death by wife Trinidad P. Avitia and both his parents, 3 sisters Maria A. Villanueva, Felicitas A. Adame, Isabel A. Adame, and 1 brother Jose G. Avitia.
Genaro is survived by his 2 sisters Cruz Adame and Sara Gallegos. His children, Victor Avitia, Yolanda A. Aguilar (Crisanto), Jesus “Jesse” Avitia (Michelle), 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Genaro was a devoted Christian, a loving husband and father. He was very charitable, honest, and a true mustangs fan. Genaro was very dedicated to his family, friends and community, he knew no stranger. His doors were always open to everyone that needed help or even just some kind words of encouragement to lift them up. Genaro was also known as "Jerry". He was a life long resident of ingleside and worked 25 years with the ingleside independent school district. there wasn’t a moment you wouldn’t see him cheering on his beloved Ingleside Mustangs. Genaro will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home. Prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home. Funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Primera Iglesia Baptist located at 3095 Main St. in Ingleside, Texas. Interment to follow at San Ignacio Cemetery.
