We regretfully announce that Fred P. Garza, Sr. passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at his home in Ingleside, Texas.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, Daniel and Macedonia Garza, and his two brothers, Ruben and Arturo Garza.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maria Garza, his children, Daniel Garza (Lachlan) of Warrenton, Virginia; Albert Garza (Norma) of Portland, Texas; Fred P. Garza, Jr. (Layla) of Ingleside, Texas; and Nicholl Wade (Landon) of Austin, Texas. He had eight grandchildren, Jessie Browning (Summer); Brianna Turner (Tyler); Albert Luis Garza; Emily Garza; Caelen Garza; Genevieve Garza; Adalyn Garza; and Noah Garza; and three great grandchildren, Ryker; Audrey; and Ridley.
Fred was born on October 19, 1944, in Refugio, Texas, and he was the oldest of ten children. He enlisted in the Marines in 1965, fought in the Vietnam War, and was a decorated veteran. His military honors include two Purple Hearts, a National Defense Service Medal, and two Bronze Star Vietnam Service Medals. When he returned from Vietnam, he and Maria got married, and he began work as a construction supervisor.
Family was everything to Fred. From a young age he looked after his siblings, and once he was older, he took care of his mother. Fred had a unique sense of humor and loved to tease people. He also had a wide variety of interests and hobbies such as gardening, livestock, honeybee keeping, and history.
