Frances Elizabeth “Beth” St.Clair Casterline died Sunday, October 6, 2024 surrounded by her husband and children.
Beth was born on August 7, 1949 at Bohmann Hospital in Cuero, TX to Alex Allison St. Clair and Ave Nell McWhirter of Smiley, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and twin brother who was still-born.
Beth started public school in Smiley, TX and graduated from Cuero High School in Cuero, TX in 1967. Heading to Sam Houston State University in the Fall of 1967, she graduated with a BA in English and Government in December 1970. As fortune would have it, a job was available at Rockport-Fulton High School and she began teaching there in January 1971.
Shortly after her arrival in Rockport, she met Leslie “Bubba” Casterline and they married on April 2, 1971 at the First Baptist Church in Cuero, TX. They soon started their family and were blessed with two children, Stephanie and Les. After starting their family, Beth worked for the Texas Department of Public Welfare in Rockport for 3 years. In 1983 when her youngest started school, she returned to teaching at AC Blunt Middle School in Aransas Pass, TX as an 8th grade Reading teacher.
Beth spent many summers continuing her education and received a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Corpus Christi State University and an additional certification in Library Science from Sam Houston State University. With her certificate in hand, she began her career as a Librarian at Aransas Pass High School. She remained their until June 2013, when she retired after 30 years. During her career in Aransas Pass she encouraged many students to become avid readers, even creating a program matching students and teachers to read and compare books .
Beth is survived by her husband, Leslie Eugene Casterline Jr,; daughter, Stephanie Len Casterline; Son, Leslie Eugene Casterline III (Courtney); grand-daughter, Laney Elizabeth Casterline ; grandson, Benjamin Walker Casterline ; sister, Judy Ellen (Raleigh) Blackwell ; Brother, Charles Alan (Marsha) St. Clair ; Aunt, Mitzi McWhirter Graves; Brothers-in laws, Michael Deamus Casterline, Frank Allen (Carolyn) Casterline, Michael Henry; Sister-in-law, Eileen Ruth Casterline, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
She was proceeded in death by her parents, twin brother, Father-in-law Leslie Eugene “LE” Casterline, Mother-in-law Zora Belle Page Casterline, Sister-in-Law Anna Belle Casterline Henry
Visitation will be held Friday, October 11, 2024, from 1 pm – 8 pm The family will be present from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, TX. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Rockport, TX. Graveside services will be held following the funeral service. Prior to her death, Beth selected a resting spot under a beautiful oak tree in the original Casterline plot in the Old Fulton Cemetery in Fulton, TX.
A reception will be held at the First Baptist Church of Rockport after the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name for FTD research to the Nantz National Alzheimer Center – 1707 Sunset Blvd, Houston, TX 77005
