Rockport

Fabian Fonseca, of Rockport, TX, passed away on October 26, 2024. Fabian was born in Lyford, TX on January 8, 1942 to Casimira Maria Morales and Santiago Fonseca. He was raised in the Rio Grande Valley and Victoria, TX. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force and fought in the Vietnam War. He went on to graduate with a Masters in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX in 1972 – one of the few Hispanics to graduate with a Masters degree from that university during that time. Fabian met and married Kathleen Barber (Fonseca) and they had two daughters. They divorced later in life but remained lifelong friends.

Fabian had an exciting career with the United States Government. He was firearms instructor for the western district of Texas for the Federal Probation and Parole Agency. He retired in 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Fabian loved discussing alien and UFO sightings, and at one point was a member of MUFON. He always had a story of adventure and had a larger than life personality.

Fabian was preceded in death by his father Santiago Fonseca; mother Casimira Maria Ramos; step-father Trinidad Ramos Sr.; brother Santiago Fonseca Jr.; brother Peter Ramos; sister Eva Ramos; and many aunts, uncles and cousins he was close to. 

He is survived by his daughters Lauren Denver-Potter (George Potter), Adriana Simmons (Cory); grandsons Trenton Denver (Lilly Hicks), Oliver Simmons, Elijah Simmons, and Corbin Potter; ex-wife Kathleen Fonseca; sister Mary Alice Ramos Scarborough; sister Susie Gillis (Ted); sister Emma Garduno ; brother Trinidad Ramos (Annie); brother Joe Ramos (Alicia); sister-in-law Elizabeth Ramos; aunt Olivia Rios Stoll; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends as well as extended family and friends who all loved him very dearly.

A funeral mass will be held in Rockport, TX at 10am on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church to celebrate his life with burial to follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 2pm in Corpus Christi, TX.
