Everett Dale Pogue was born June 13, 1932 at Liberty Hill, Oklahoma. He went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 8, 2024 in Rockport, Texas. He was 92 years old.
His Parents were Everett Edmond Pogue and Beulah Mae Hall Pogue. Dale graduated from Fort Smith Arkansas High School in 1950. He was elected “most talented” in his class. He entered Ouachita Baptist College and graduated in 1954. While at Ouachita he was a cheerleader, captain of the state-champion rifle team, and member of ROTC. In 1954, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army and then in 1955 following training at Fort Benning, Georgia he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and assigned as Infantry Unit Commander to the Second Armored Division in Germany. This division had once been commanded by General George S. Patton. Dale was selected to coach the small arms division rifle teams and in 1956 they won the Seventh Army Championship, and a parade was held in his honor. While in Germany he received the Army of Occupation Medal.
Later In 1956 he returned to the States and moved to Houston where he met the love of his life Ann Maurer. They married in December 1957 in Pharr, Tx. Dale entered the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Tx. and received a Master of Religious Education in 1960. His wife Ann had received her RN degree from Lilly Jolly School of Nursing in Houston and became the school nurse for the seminary.
Through their years of service Dale served at Stadium Drive Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin, FBC of Center, FBC Wharton, Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, FBC Rockport, and FBC Taft. He also served as interim pastor at Newgulf Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church in Ingleside. He finished his full-time service as Vice-President of Family Ministries for the South Texas Children’s Home in Beeville.
Dale was an avid bird watcher, fisherman, hunter, and prize-winning poet as well as a wonderful singer and storyteller. He received countless awards, commendations and recognition throughout his life and career. He made friends with everyone he met and humbly impacted countless lives. What he cherished the most was being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years Agnes Ann Pogue of Rockport, his son, Lee Pogue of Rockport and daughter Laura Duprie (James) of Goliad. Four grandchildren, Dempsey Duprie (Hailey), Emily Duprie, Calvin Duprie and Courtney Forkum and Three step-grandchildren, Lauren Bowden, Lindsey McDowell and Emma Pace, as well as six great grandchildren. A Brother, Powell Pogue (Chloye) Pogue of Little Rock and a sister Dorcie Caldwell of Ft. Smith. He was blessed with wonderful relatives and great friends. He truly was “one of a kind”.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday, November 15th from 3pm – 7pm (family will be present from 5pm-7pm), at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, Texas. Burial will be Saturday, November 16th at 9:30am at the Fulton Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11am at First Baptist Church Rockport, Texas.
