Rockport, TX
Evelyn “Grace” Stanick
Evelyn “Grace” Stanick entered into her eternal rest on May 12, 2019 at the age of 95. Born on March 30, 1924 to Ella (West) and Levert Thornton in Lohn, Texas, she was the last living child of nine children. Growing up near Brady, Texas, Grace was blessed with a close, loving and supportive family.
She had two lifelong passions, talking with people and being with family. She loved to talk about her home town, Rockport, Texas to visitors and new residents. Though she worked at many businesses in Rockport during the 41 years she lived there, she truly enjoyed managing the Sea Gun Resort in the 60’s and Key Allegro Resort in the 70’s until she earned her Real Estate license and then her Real Estate Brokers License. Selling Real Estate allowed Grace to talk about her charming home town and the benefits of living in this unique waterfront town. Grace was most thankful to all who helped her build her first Real Estate office in November 1980 on Hwy 35 S “Calm Harbor Real Estate”. Its unique log cabin facade easily attracted new clients and curious vacationers providing Grace the opportunity to promote her community. Grace was a member of the Texas Association of Realtors Political Action Committee from 1993- 2001. She was President of the Rockport Board of Realtors in 1995 and owned three different Real Estate office locations in Rockport over her career.
Grace loved to go fishing, crabbing, boating, playing dominos and take to drives on Sundays to take in the beauty of Rockport, and see it grow over the years. After retiring, she moved to Victoria to live near family. Eventually moving to Lynnwood, Washington to live near her daughter, Vicki, she never tired of seeing the snow-covered mountains, lush forests, snow melt rivers and the impressive Puget Sound and Cascade Mountain Range. At the age of 95 when she got a bit bored, she talked of going back to work selling real estate.
Grace was a loving wife, caring mother, and astute businesswoman. She never met a stranger. She will be missed by all who knew her but she leaves many memories to enjoy and cherish.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Vicki L. Fassnacht (husband Marc), James E. Gillit (wife Wanda) and Ricky L. Gillit (wife Debbie), seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Stephen S. Stanick, daughter Dianna Grace Gay, and son-in-law Douglas Gay.
Our family would like to express a special thanks to the entire staff of Madison Adult Family Home in Lynnwood, Washington for the wonderful loving, tireless care they provided to our mom for the year she was a resident at Madison House. And to Dr. Oana Marcu, who help Grace endure gracefully through the last two years of her life.
